Search "TikTok vs Bigo Live" and you'll find plenty of creators insisting Bigo pays more. We ran the actual math on both platforms' public conversion rates, and the opposite is true for gift-based earnings — TikTok pays creators roughly 3-5x more per dollar of viewer spending. Here's exactly where that "Bigo pays more" idea comes from, and where it's true.

⚡ The short answer

Per gift dollar, TikTok wins clearly: creators keep 35-50% of viewer spend vs Bigo's roughly 8-15%. Bigo's advantage is its Official Host program — a guaranteed monthly salary unrelated to any single gift, which TikTok has no real equivalent of.

Same $100 Spent by a Viewer — Who Gets More?

The cleanest way to compare two gifting platforms is to hold the viewer's spend constant and see what lands in the creator's pocket. Both platforms publish (or have well-documented) the rates needed to do this math.

Platform & purchase methodViewer spendsCreator receivesCreator's share
TikTok — Android/web coins$100.00$50.0050%
TikTok — iOS coins$100.00$35.0035%
Bigo Live — web Diamonds (bulk)$100.00~$14.88~14.9%
Bigo Live — in-app Diamonds$100.00~$7.68~7.7%

Even at its best case (a viewer buying bulk Diamonds on the web), Bigo Live's gift payout to the creator is less than a third of what TikTok pays for the same $100. At the worst case — a viewer buying the smallest in-app Diamond bundle — it's less than a sixth.

How We Calculated This

TikTok's math is straightforward and was covered in our complete TikTok coins to USD guide: viewers buy coins at approximately $0.015 each, and creators receive 50% of that on Android/web or 35% on iOS (after Apple's 30% App Store cut). There's no further fee once coins become Diamonds in your wallet.

Bigo Live's math takes three steps, and this is exactly where the "Bigo pays more" confusion starts — most comparisons online skip step two entirely:

Bigo Live creator payout formula (standard conversion)
Diamonds received × 0.5 (platform cut) ÷ 210 (Beans per $1) = creator USD
Example — 1,000 Diamonds received:
1,000 × 0.5 = 500 Beans tagged to host
500 ÷ 210 = $2.38 creator payout

That same 1,000 Diamonds cost the viewer $16-$31 to buy, depending on bundle.
⚠️ A caveat worth knowing

A small number of reseller/top-up sites claim some regional Bigo servers convert Diamonds to Beans at higher multiples (up to 3 Beans per Diamond instead of 1). We could not independently verify this outside of that one cluster of sources, so we're not building it into our numbers — the 0.5-net-Beans-per-Diamond rate above is the one consistently corroborated across independent calculations, including Bigo's own published cash-out rate and minimum withdrawal figures.

Why People Say "Bigo Pays More" Anyway

The folklore isn't baseless — it's just answering a different question than "how much per gift." Bigo Live's real advantage for creators is its Official Host program, which TikTok has no direct equivalent of.

Under Official Host, an approved broadcaster working through an agency earns a guaranteed monthly salary for meeting hour and gift-value quotas — separate from, and in addition to, whatever Diamonds they receive. Bigo's own creator FAQ cites a typical range of roughly $150 to over $10,000 per month depending on the quotas met and the specific agency contract.

That changes the comparison entirely for a mid-size creator with an engaged but not whale-heavy audience. A TikTok battle streamer with no Lions or Universes coming in is purely at the mercy of gift volume. A Bigo Official Host hitting their hour/gift quota gets paid regardless of whether any single viewer sends a big gift that week — which, for inconsistent or newer audiences, can genuinely feel like "more reliable" or "better" pay, even though the underlying per-gift rate is lower.

In practice, a lot of creators who can sustain consistent battle volume and occasional big gifts come out ahead on TikTok's higher per-gift rate. Creators who want a predictable income floor, and are willing to commit to an agency's hour and quota requirements, may prefer Bigo's Official Host structure — even though it pays out less per Diamond.

Bottom line: don't take "X platform pays more" at face value from either direction. TikTok pays more per gift, full stop — but Bigo Live's guaranteed-salary Official Host track is a genuinely different kind of income that a pure per-gift comparison doesn't capture. Decide based on which structure fits your actual audience and streaming schedule, not platform folklore.
